Last Liftoff
One of my earliest childhood memories is from the time when I scraped my leg trying to climb over a concrete wall at Cape Canaveral. I must have been about 5 at the time. The night before, my parents and I had camped out on the edge of the Banana River so we could witness the launch of the Space Shuttle. I don’t remember much else about the event except for a boom box on the beach and an orange tear in the sky. It was my first taste of space flight, and ever since then I’ve been hooked on the cosmos. And so being able to witness the final launch of The Space Shuttle program was one of the emotional experience in recent memory. It felt like a thirty-some-odd year deja-vu and that my entire life up until this point had come full circle. Simply awesome! Thanks Mom & Dad for that first experience!
